  • 0.3! What is it?
The 0.3 process is a slower, more gentle process way to tan. The tan will result in a deeper, darker and more prominent lasting kinder affect to your skin. 0.3 compliant lamps emit a lower amount of UV light per square metre than standard lamps, reducing the risk of over-exposure. The tanning session delivers the same tanning effect as a mid-day Mediterranean summer sun but reduces the risk of burning. The regulation is approved by the EU and complies with all British and European consumer safety regulations.
  • How long should I leave between sessions?
The amount of time left between tanning sessions varies depending on your skin type and purpose of tanning (building or maintain). Tan Allure’s policy states that no more than one session can be used within a 24-hour period. The process of tanning takes 24 hours to complete and as such, this reduces the risk of over-exposure while maximising your tanning potential. To enhance the building of a tan, it is recommended to not leave more than 72 hours between sessions as after this time, the tan will begin to withdraw. At Tan Allure, our tanning consultants are trained to assist you in designing your personal tanning plan, determined by your skin type, tanning history and preferences.
  • How long will it take my skin to build up a tan?
Similarly, to the amount of time between tanning sessions, building up a tan is dependent on your skin type and condition. Dry skin naturally reflects light and the therefor any developed tan does not last. Fair skin tans quicker whereas medium and dark skins types are more resistant to the tanning process, requiring additional sessions. However, on average, a base tan can be developed between 3 and 5 sessions. Maximising your tanning potential can be obtained by ensuring your skin is fully exfoliated and moisturised. At Tan Allure, we stock a wide range of UV lotions that enhance the tanning process while replacing any lost moisture from your session. Our team of qualified tanning consultants are trained to help you find a lotion to suit your preferences and tanning requirements.
  • What are the Vitamin D Impacts?
Sunbeds are very good for Vitamin D! There is a wealth of research citing responsible use of UV light as the best source of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential for good health, developing and maintaining many systems within the human body as well as for the prevention of chronic illnesses such as SAD, PMS, depression and psoriasis. Located in the heart of Aberdeen, outdoor natural sunlight is in short supply leading to an increased risk of Vitamin D deficiency. Using a responsible indoor tanning bed is not only tailored to your skin type, it is effective use of time. This will help enhance and promote Vitamin D levels
  • Can UV Light Help my Skin Condition?
At Tan Allure, we ask all clients to complete a declaration, acknowledging the effects of UV light to their skin. In addition, we advise that clients consult with a GP before undertaking any UV tanning package used to treat a specific skin condition. This will ensure the correct medical opinion is given in addition to that given in store. UV light is shown to kill the bacteria associated with Acne. However, new developments in skin treatments still require the necessity to consult with a health professional before undertaking in a tanning session. Nevertheless, UV tanning equipment is proven to boost the production of Vitamin D. Experts believe that having a vitamin D deficiency limits the body’s ability to keep skin healthy. Therefore, we advise that your talk to health professionals about the different options available.
  • SAD – Seasonal Affective Disorder! What is it?
Also known as “Winter Depression”, SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a type of depression that comes and goes, believed to be caused by a lack of exposure to natural sunlight. UV light boosts Vitamin D and Serotonin production, enhancing mood elevation and reducing the risk of SAD. Serotonin is a hormone associated with mood variations and has been found to rise with exposure to bright light and fall with decreased sun exposure. At Tan Allure, we advise consultation with your GP in respect to medical conditions.
  • Cancer
Research has found that Vitamin D deficiency is a common factor in many types of cancer, even going so far as to state that the benefits far outweigh the risks. The team at Tan Allure are dedicated to a responsible approach to tanning and therefore we make it a priority to consult every new client with given advice on session lengths in accordance to skin type and previous tanning history. Clients are not permitted to tan more than once throughout a 24-hour period in order to reduce the risk of over-exposure.
  • What are the tanning implications while I am pregnant?
No research has been found to indicate UV light has a negative effect on an unborn baby but at Tan Allure, we oblige by our policy to prohibit the use of UV tanning equipment in the 2nd and 3rd trimester. This is followed to minimise risk to the mother. However, we are happy to place an active tanning block “on hold” for the duration of the pregnancy.
  • What are the differences between a stand-up and lie-down tanning session?
Individual preference! Beds are as varied as those who use them and the main difference is individual preference. Some clients prefer to pop on for a shorter session on a stand-up while others prefer to enjoy a longer session lying down, allowing for further relaxing and unwinding. All beds at Tan Allure are designed to tan all over, done by the careful design and position of the lamp arrays and reflectors. All new clients are provided with a tour and demonstration of the equipment.
  • How long should my session be?
Sessions lengths are determined by skin type and tanning history, developing with time. The first session is usually the minimum session length suitable for your skin type. For example, skin type 1 or 2 is advised to have a 4 minute session to begin with while skin types 3 and above are advised to begin with 6 minutes. Our trained tanning consultants are more than happy to help design a tanning package suitable for you.
  • Should I use stand-up or lie-down?
The team at Tan Allure are trained to assist clients to choose equipment to suit their individual preferences while acknowledging tanning history and skin type. Stand-up tanning is fantastic for when time is short while lie-down tanning offers a great opportunity for relaxing. Within each bed, settings are available to tailor sessions to your preference.
  • What is the best way to prepare my skin before using UV tanning?
Dry skin reflects light and cells shed more frequently resulting in a shallow and short-lasting tan. Moisturising is key to developing a deeper, darker, longer lasting tan. Ensuring you apply moisturiser after every bath/shower/use of a UV specific lotion is key to maintaining healthy tanned skin.
  • Can I use someone else's minutes
No. Minutes can only be used by the account holder. No minutes can be transferred to other customers or used from other customer accounts under any circumstances.
